Zvi  Mazel

Zvi Mazel is a former Israeli diplomat. He served as deputy director general in Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in charge of African Affairs from 1993 to 1996. He also served as Israel’s ambassador to Romania from 1989 to 1992, to Egypt from 1996 to 2001 and to Sweden from 2002 to 2004. In the ministry, he also served as director of the Egypt and North Africa division (1983-1984) and director of the East Europe division (1992-1993), among other positions.

Ambassador Mazel graduated from the Paris Institute of Political Studies (Sciences Po), where he studied political science and international relations. He is a leading specialist in Middle East affairs and a fellow at the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs (JCPA), a think tank that specializes in Israeli security, diplomacy and international law. He was JCPA’s Arabic website editor and has written numerous papers on Middle East affairs. He frequently contributes commentary to various media outlets in Hebrew, English, French and Arabic. He is also a board member of the Institute for Monitoring Peace and Cultural Tolerance in School Education (IMPACT-SE).
