Location:

We are honored to invite you to a special congress, co-organized by the Harry S. Truman Research Institute for the Advancement of Peace and The Vatican, at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

From July 2-5 2017, the Truman institute will host this year’s Scholas Congress titled “Between Academia and School: Peace-building through Culture and Dialogue”. The congress will feature a meeting of academicians, scientists and religious leaders from across the world, along with peace and trust-building activities involving youth from the three Abrahamic religions. Over 150 people are expected to take part in the congress, including Israelis, Palestinians, and representatives from Africa, Latin America, Europe, and North American.

Scholas Citizenship is an educational program of Scholas Occurrentes that aims to promote the social commitment and participation of youth, starting from their own experiences and concerns, to produce positive changes in themselves and their communities. With the Interreligious Citizenship Encounter, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Scholas reunite answering Pope Francis’ call to create a culture of encounter among youth, applying the yearly wisdom of the University, with the foundation’s intuition and expertise. Pope Francis, who founded the Scholas organization to promote education among the world's poor, is sponsoring the congress and emphasized the high importance of having this project in Jerusalem.

Using the Scholas Citizenship’s methodology -that is based on art, play and thinking- the Interreligious Citizenship Encounter aims students to live that culture of encounter in a curated space and, then, to create a project to extend that living to others.
